Nantucket is home to many beautiful hotels, but if you’re looking for a unique experience, the Faraway Hotel may just be the perfect choice.

As a travel blogger, I was excited to explore this historic hotel and experience all it had to offer. From its stunning location on the cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean to its beautifully decorated rooms, the Faraway Hotel offers a one-of-a-kind stay that you won’t forget anytime soon.

In this blog post, I’ll share my experience staying at the Faraway Hotel and give you a glimpse of what to expect during your visit.

Here are some key points to keep in mind when planning a trip to Nantucket:

  1. Nantucket is an island located off the coast of Massachusetts and can only be accessed by ferry or plane.

  2. The island is known for its stunning beaches, quaint cobblestone streets, and historic homes.

  3. Nantucket has a rich whaling history, and visitors can learn about it at the Whaling Museum and other historic sites.

  4. The island is small and easy to navigate by bike, car, or on foot.

  5. The summer months are the most popular time to visit, but the fall is also a great time to enjoy the island’s natural beauty and quieter atmosphere.

  6. Nantucket can be expensive, so budget accordingly and plan ahead to get the most out of your trip.

  7. The island has a thriving arts and culture scene, and there are always events and activities to enjoy.

Nantucket’s opulent past, wealthy inhabitants, and affluent guests make it a hub of luxury.

To give you an idea, during my recent stay, I learned that Nantucket is a favorite vacation spot for Jill and Joe Biden, and is also home to properties that sell for over $20 million! The island is synonymous with extravagance, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a lavish getaway.

How to Get to Nantucket

There are a couple of transportation options to get to Nantucket, including by ferry or plane. I opted to fly with Cape Air from Boston to Nantucket, and it was a breeze.

The flight from Boston Logan airport was just under an hour, and Cape Air offers year-round service from ACK to Boston, Hyannis, New Bedford, and Martha’s Vineyard. Departing from Cape Air’s main base at the BOS airport was a great experience.

The check-in process was straightforward, with standard luggage weighing and a weight check to ensure balance on the small aircraft.

Overall, I had a wonderful experience flying with Cape Air and arriving at Nantucket with ease.

Traveling to Nantucket by ferry is a popular option, and the Steamship Authority is the largest ferry service to the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket from Cape Cod.

If you plan on bringing your vehicle, be sure to make your reservations in advance.

Ferries to Martha’s Vineyard depart from Woods Hole, while those to Nantucket leave from Hyannis.

The ferry ride typically takes about an hour and is a great way to enjoy the stunning views of the coastline while making your way to Nantucket.

Upon arriving at Nantucket, if you have some time to spare before checking in to your hotel, take a leisurely stroll downtown and soak in the charming sights and sounds of this picturesque town.

Checking In at the Faraway Hotel

The moment you step into the Faraway Hotel, you’ll immediately notice the exceptional 5-star service from the staff and team, and appreciate the intricate attention to detail throughout the property.

This stunning hotel is the brainchild of Boston-based Blue Flag partners, who began developing this sought-after property in 2019.

During my stay, I had the pleasure of learning about the fascinating story behind the hotel’s design elements.

The Faraway pays tribute to Susan R. Bloomfield, who captained an all-female crew across the seas.

The Sister Ship menu combines the influence of her Mediterranean travels with a New England seafood twist.

As you explore the hotel, from the Sister Ship restaurant to the private rooms, you’ll discover subtle nods to this captivating narrative woven throughout.

Hotel Room Options

The hotel has a total of 20 guest rooms, which includes 6 guest rooms with king-size beds, 10 guest rooms with queen-size beds, 3 suites, and 1 cottage.

Each room is designed with a blend of modern and traditional decor, giving guests a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

The Faraway hotel is a part of a collection of four historic homes that are several hundred years old.

Each of these homes has a charming and classic appeal, with wooden porches and shingled exteriors that are in keeping with the familiar aesthetic of homes throughout the island.

The overall ambiance of these historic buildings is simply delightful and adds to the Faraway’s unique charm.

During my stay at the Faraway hotel, I had the pleasure of staying in the Manor House, where I enjoyed a spacious one-bedroom suite complete with a lovely sunroom.

Each morning, I was greeted by the warm sunrise, and in the evenings, I savored the calming sunset view.

The king-sized bedroom was incredibly comfortable, with ample space for two people, a mini-fridge, and plenty of storage.

Natural light flowed throughout the suite, illuminating its many features. Additionally, the suite was stocked with luxurious Le Labo products, adding to the overall experience of comfort and relaxation.

The pastel linens and minimalistic furniture in the room were among my favorite features of the Faraway hotel. Despite the room’s size of about 120 square feet, it felt remarkably spacious, with plenty of room for two people to relax comfortably in the king-sized bedroom of the Manor House.

This clever use of space and design elements helped create a serene and inviting atmosphere that made my stay all the more enjoyable.

Whether you’re planning a family vacation, a girls’ trip, or a romantic getaway, the Faraway hotel is the perfect choice for your stay in Nantucket.

Located just steps away from local shopping, dining, museums, and more, you’ll be able to enjoy everything this charming town has to offer.

It’s worth noting that if you’re a parent with toddlers and a stroller or on a girls’ trip with multiple bags, the historic homes that make up the hotel do not have elevators.

However, the staff at the Faraway are exceptionally helpful and accommodating. During check-in and check-out, the staff kindly carried my two-piece luggage set to my room, making the experience much more comfortable.

Don’t hesitate to ask for assistance; the staff is always happy to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
